The Non-Designer’s Design Presentation

Project Summary

It’s time to take all the design wisdom you’ve been building and tie it together into one big, polished project. Throughout this module, you’ve been making individual presentations based on The Non-Designer’s Design Book. Now, you’ll combine those three smaller projects (Joshua Tree, Color and Typography) into one consistent, professional “mega presentation.”

Here’s the challenge: consistency. You’ll need to decide if you want to redesign the earlier presentations to match your final style, or if you had the foresight to plan ahead. Either way, this project tests whether you can think like a real designer, because in the industry, branding and visual unity across multiple pieces of content is the difference between looking amateur and looking pro.

Creative Focus

This project is about system thinking. It’s not just whether each individual slide deck looks good, but whether they look like they belong together as a family. A consistent design system means choosing fonts, colors, layouts, and styles that can stretch across multiple projects while staying cohesive. This is exactly what companies do with brand guidelines. Think about Apple’s marketing: clean fonts, minimalist layouts, consistent color schemes. Or Netflix: bold black and red with consistent typography across every ad. That’s the energy we’re going for.

By pulling your three projects into one, you’ll practice brand consistency, storytelling across multiple pieces, and refining earlier work to meet higher standards. These skills are industry gold, and they’ll make your portfolio stand out as work that feels professional rather than “student project-y.”

Want to level this up from “three decks taped together” to a real story? Consider adding a returning design element, theme, or even a “character” that shows up across all three sections. Maybe it’s a recurring icon, a mascot, or a shape that evolves as the presentations progress. This gives your mega-presentation flow and narrative — not just consistency, but storytelling. In design, little callbacks like this make work memorable and add personality.

Project Requirements

  • Final Deliverable:
    • One unified Google Slides “mega presentation” that combines the three previous Non-Designer’s projects (Joshua Tree, Color Theory, Typography).
    • Total length: at least 30 slides (10 slides per original project).
    • Visuals must be built with shapes, typography, and colors — no outside images.
    • All three sections must look consistent in terms of color palette, typography, and layout.
  • Slide Structure:
    • 1 Title Slide introducing the full mega presentation.
    • Section 1: Joshua Tree Epiphany (10 slides).
    • Section 2: Color Theory (10 slides).
    • Section 3: Typography (10 slides).
    • 1 Closing Slide summarizing what you learned about design awareness.
  • WordPress Portfolio Requirements:
    • Embed the finished Google Slides presentation in your portfolio post.
    • Include at least 1 Project Type.
    • (examples: presentation design, typography, color theory, Joshua Tree, consistency, design systems, Google Slides, portfolio project)
    • A unique Featured Image
    • Written project explanation (300–400 words) that covers:
      • How you unified your design system across the three projects.
      • Any redesign choices you made along the way.
      • Why consistency is so important in professional design.
