Project Introduction
Welcome to your weekly challenge — and yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Every week, you’ll publish a new Tutorial Post on your WordPress blog. This is where you show off what you’ve learned by explaining it to someone else — clearly, visually, and in your own voice.
You’ll be walking through how to do something: a Photoshop tool, a Premiere trick, a camera setting, an After Effects effect — getting comfortable with the content for that week. Each post should include your own screenshots or custom visuals, photography, and later in the year, maybe even an animation or two.
This is a real-world skill. Creatives and media pros regularly write tutorials, make training content, or share workflows. So you’re learning to do what actual professionals do — while building a portfolio of awesome content you made yourself.
One post per week. It shouldn’t take your whole life. Just chip away at it, keep it consistent, and try to actually explain something usefully. Bonus points if you make someone laugh while they learn.
Creative Focus
This is about teaching through visuals — combining words, screenshots, and layout to explain tools and techniques in a way that makes sense to other humans. You’re not just showing “what you did.” You’re explaining how and why.
Think of this like “presenting a mini-lesson.” You’ll need to organize your steps, label images, write in a voice that’s helpful (but still sounds like you), and format it all in WordPress so it’s clean, easy to follow, and actually teaches something.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s clarity. Tutorials that help others are also the fastest way to help yourself — because if you can break it down for someone else, you really know it.
Project Requirements
Your final published Tutorial Post must include the following elements every week:
- A Featured Image that’s either custom-made or royalty-free (Unsplash, Pexels, etc.)
- A Title that tells the reader exactly what the tutorial is about
- Proper Tags and a Category set for the post
- A Written Tutorial between 750–1000 words that explains a digital media concept, tool, or workflow
- At least 5 custom visuals (screenshots, process shots, animations, etc.) that support the tutorial
- These should be your own — don’t just grab stuff from Google
- Label your visuals or annotate them where needed
- Embed videos or animations later in the semester using OBS + Premiere/After Effects
- All images should be:
- Resized properly for web (1920x1080px at 72dpi)
- Organized and laid out clearly in the post with spacing and captions
- Composed or chosen with intention
You may use AI (like ChatGPT) as a planning or structure assistant, but do not use AI to write your post or generate your images. I will be checking. Be original. Be sure that you understand the DMMD AI Classroom Usage Policy before doing anything with AI for this class.
Project Grading Rubric
This project is a simple Pass/Fail assignment. Either you got your accounts set up by the due date, or you didn’t. Don’t stress it if your accounts are being held up for reasons outside your control.
I may seem imposing, but I am not a MONSTER! If you are having trouble getting through the account setup process for one reason or another, just be sure that the Instructor is in the loop. For example, if your eCard is being delayed by something outside of your control, you won’t lose points for that.
